I think that this quote 'Better is one's own duty imperfectly carried out than
following perfectly the law of another.
Better is death in the fulfillment of one's own law, for to follow another's law is perilous.' relates to Holden because of how he likes to think of others as fake or not themselves. I think that this quote “About all you can do in life is be who you are. Some people will love
you for you. Most will love you for what you can do for them, and some
won't like you at all.” connects to Holden because again he thinks of people as fake and judges them but never really get into detail about himself.
I agree with you Alissa. I like the quote that you chose. It fits really well to Holden. Holden thinks mainly every person he sees is phony and fake. "About all you can do i life is be who you are..." But at the same time, Holden is fake himself. He's never himself. He lies all the time. He never tells people his real name, and he tries to act older than he really is. In a way, this connects perfectly, and in another way, it can be the opposite of Holden.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you Alissa, that was a great quote to use as a example it really shows who Holden is. Holden seems to believe everyone is bigger than they really are that's why he uses the word phony alot. But he is to busy worrying bout other he dosnt worry about him self because hes phony to.
